On The Side
These days everyone wants a side hustle—but it seems like whenever you try to find one, the same suggestions always come up. However, the truth is there are some other ways to make some extra cash that aren't the same old side hustles everyone always talks about. There are plenty of ways to add to your bank account that you've probably never even thought about before. Such as...
Stand In Line
Some of the best side hustle opportunities come from doing things other people hate doing so much they are willing to pay someone else to do it. Like standing in line. Whether it's to buy tickets, pick up a package, or just hold the place until someone arrives—you really can get paid to stand in line.
Host Trivia Nights
Some of you may have been to trivia night at your local bar before (if you haven't, you should go—they are a lot of fun). Well, do you remember the person who hosted the event? Read the questions, give the answers, etc... Well, that person probably got paid to do it. We've heard of people getting up to $50 a night (and free food and drinks).
Mock Jury
Sometimes law firms hire regular people to form a mock jury who listens to a case and deliberates like a real jury would. You could pick up a couple hundred bucks for a few hours of your deliberating time.
Be A Friend
Yup, there are websites where people go to find a "friend" to hang out with, go to a museum, chat on the phone, grab lunch... You can be a "friend" on these sites and set an hourly rate for your platonic companionship.
Cuddle
If you're willing to take things a little farther than just friends—you can make some good money as a cuddler. Just like there are websites for people looking for friends, there are cuddler-wanted sites as well. Set up a profile with details, rates, etc and snuggle your way to extra cash.
Goats
Goats are natural lawn mowers. If you have a few, you can rent them out to houses with overgrown lawns. Yes, this really is a thing.
Sell Your Dirty Clothes
Socks, underwear, shoes—why clean them when you can just sell them? There are a number of websites that act as marketplaces for worn, dirty clothes. No joke.
Class Action Lawsuits
There are class action lawsuits happening all the time—and while you probably don't qualify for most of them, you might qualify for some of them. If you do, it could mean a few extra bucks every now and then.
Play The Victim
This is one time where it's ok to play the victim. The military will pay upwards of $100/day for people to act like victims in their drills.
Donate Your Plasma
Plasma transfusions can save lives and the Red Cross says that 10,000 units of plasma are needed in the US each day. If you're an adult in good health, who meets a few requirements, you can donate your plasma, make hundreds of dollars, and help save lives.
Art Class Model
You don't always have to model without clothes on—but if you're comfortable doing so, there's probably more opportunities available. It's all done very respectfully, of course.
Roaches
We read one story about a guy who bred feeder roaches and sold them to pet stores. He was making six figures out of his garage.
Dumpster Diving
Okay, so you don't literally have to dive into dumpsters (although some do)–this is more about just finding stuff to sell at a markup online. Garage sales, bulk stores, and the like are all good places to find things cheap that people will be willing to pay more for.
Babysitting
Babysitting isn't just for teenagers these days. In fact, there are probably many parents who would feel much more comfortable leaving their kids with an adult who has kids of their own then with some high schooler. We've even seen folks who host overnight sitting, giving parents a full night to themselves for about $50 per child.
Plant Cuttings
Do you have a green thumb? Are you growing plants and replanting the cuttings anyway? Well, why not sell some of those perfectly potted plants to all the folks in your area whose thumbs are very much NOT green?
Valet Parking
Big events like concerts and sporting events often need extra people to do valet parking. A night here and there can add some extra cash to your income—and you get to drive a bunch of different cars.
Pet Sitting
Any pet lover has probably thought of this one before—but doing it might be easier than you thought. People that live in apartment buildings can often find enough work within the building, popping in on dogs during the day for people that work long hours. And once you do that, it's probably not a stretch to do longer-term sitting when the owners go out of town. We've seen people charging anything from $40-$100 a night for this one.
Wrap Your Car
Companies will pay to wrap your car in their advertising and pay you more or less depending on how much, and where, you generally drive—as well as how much of your car you're willing to wrap.
Wedding DJ
Yes, for many, this is a full-time job. But it can also be a side gig for anyone with some skillz. And these days, all you really need is a good laptop and you're ready to go make $100/hour or more.
Random Jobs
Scroll through Facebook and you'll often see people looking for someone to help with random jobs—from cleaning out the gutters to hanging shelves and everything in between (and we mean everything). One side-hustler online even wrote about how she made $25 for going to a lady's house and cutting her cat's toenails.
IKEA Furniture
There are two kinds of people in the world: those who are good at putting together IKEA furniture and those who aren't. If you are among the former, then there is money to be made doing so for the latter.
Sharpen Knives
Everyone has knives and knives need to be sharpened. And that's where you could come in. The sharpening equipment and startup cost is relatively low and we've seen people setting up shop at flea and farmers markets and making a nice little chunk of change (think hundreds, maybe $1,000 in a month).
Referee
Soccer, basketball, football—we aren't talking the pros or division one college, but referees can make upwards of $30/hour.
Plumbing Snake
How many times have you had to call a plumber and spend $100+ to clear your clogged drain. Well, why not be the person unclogging the drains? It might sound strange, but a used electrical snake can be gotten for around $500. If you charge $75 per snake-job, you'll be in the black pretty quick.
Egg Donor/Surrogate
Okay, so this is more than just a little side hustle—especially if you decide to do the surrogate thing and carry someone else's child for nine months. But the money can be great and helping a family desperate for a child can only be good for your karma. This isn't one to enter into lightly, though, of course.
Sell Your Hair
Some of us don't have enough for ourselves, let alone to sell. But if you have long, luscious locks, then there is definitely someone out there that wants to buy some of them. Set up a profile on any of the hair-selling websites out there and start literally growing money on your head.
Corporate Gift Consultant
What is a corporate gift consultant? A person that companies consult with in order to find memorable gifts for high-end clients and employees. It can take a little time to get in doors and build up a clientele—but once you do, it can be pretty profitable, and fun.
